The Secrets Beneath Review and Giveaway

The Secrets Beneath
by:  Kathleen Fuller

From the publisher:

Rebekah Yoder loves a good mystery—that is, until she becomes a part of one.
Rebekah Yoder has always been curious . . . or nosy depending on whom you ask. When a Yankee stranger moves into the house next door, she’s fascinated. Who is this strange old man who never waves or smiles? When Bekah sees him digging holes in his back yard, she’s sure there is a case to be solved.
Unfortunately, when her cousin blabs the story to the whole school, rumors fly. Is he hiding something? Treasure? Victims? And worst of all, annoying Caleb Mullet is now determined to solve the mystery with her. What they don’t realize is there’s not just secrecy lurking next door—there’s danger. Will Bekah take her curiosity too far?
Readers will love journeying with Bekah Yoder as they learn the danger of gossip, the importance of prayer, and the real story of The Secrets Beneath.

My Review:
I love the Amish!  There ways are just impressive to me.  This author lets you have inside information in the Amish community.
This book takes you inside a family's home and gives you a sneak peak of what it means to be Amish and some of their problems.
As an Englisher Mom, I want my children to have gain perspective from the Amish culture.  They are hard workers and yet - still are people.  This author catches that in her book.
The book is clean and family friendly.  However, there was a tad bit of drama that some parents might want to read first just to make sure the younger children are prepared.
I would definitely recommend this book!

Suspense and Love all in one...

Fatal Judgment
by Irene Hannon

ISBN: 978-0-8007-3456-5

From the publisher:

In Fatal Judgment, U.S. Marshal Jake Taylor has seen plenty of action during his years in law enforcement. But he'd rather go back to Iraq than face his next assignment: protection detail for federal judge Liz Michaels. His feelings toward the coldhearted workaholic haven't warmed in the five years since she drove her husband--and Jake's best friend--to despair . . . and possible suicide.
As the danger mounts and Jake gets to know Liz better, he's forced to revise his opinion of her. And when it becomes clear that an unknown enemy may want her dead, the stakes are raised. Because now both her life--and his heart--are in danger.
My Review:
This is a book I could not put down.  It was packed with a full serving of drama and excitement along with a side of a love story.  It made my heart skip a beat a couple of times.
Due to the violent nature of this story, I could not recommend this book for immature readers or readers who cannot handle high-impact dangerous stories.  I read it during the middle of the day, so I would not have nightmares.
As for strengthening my faith, it didn't.   In fact, it didn't even further my education of the judicial system.  It was however very suspenseful to the last minute.
I did like the characters in the story!  They were personable and kept my attention!
I can't wait to read my of this series from Irene Hannon!
Blessings to you!  You are loved!

Amish Fiction worth reading!

Search, The: A Novel (Lancaster County Secrets)

The Search
by Suzanne Woods Fisher

From the publisher:
The Search, Fisher’s latest fiction novel in the Lancaster County Secrets series.

Fifteen years ago, Lainey O'Toole made a split-second decision. She couldn't have known that her choice would impact so many. Now in her mid-twenties, she is poised to go to culinary school when her car breaks down in Stoney Ridge, the very Amish town in which her long-reaching decision was made, forcing her to face the shadowed past.

Bess Reihl is less than thrilled to be spending the summer at Rose Hill Farm with her large and intimidating grandmother, Bertha. It quickly becomes clear that she is there to work the farm—and work hard. The labor is made slightly more tolerable by the time it affords Bess to spend with the handsome hired hand, Billy Lapp. But he only has eyes for a flirty and curvaceous older girl.

Lainey's and Bess's worlds are about to collide and the secrets that come to light will shock them both.
My Review:

This is one of the books that you won't want to set down!  I love Amish Fiction especially when it has good lessons weaved throughout the pages.

This author made me feel like I was right there where the action was taking place.  More than once my kids had to repeat my name to get my attention - it was just that good!

There was mystery, great characters, a wonderful story and not to mention the basics that make the Amish reputable.  I love their hard work ethic and how much I gleaned just reading about their day to day chores.

The cover art was not my favorite - I feel Amish books, fiction or non should not picture an Amish photo since it goes against most of their practices.  Just my opinion.

All through out the book, the Lord was glorified and His majesty was revealed through the naked eye.  I love that!

Again, I loved this book!  It is probably best for mature eyes due to some references of "adult" issues.

Blessings to you!  You are loved!

Love On Assignment by Cara Lynn James Book Review

Love on Assignment (Ladies of Summerhill)

Love on Assignment (Ladies of Summerhill)

by Cara Lynn James

From the Publisher:
While Charlotte is focusing on uncovering sordid information on columnist Daniel Wilmot, her heart leads her into uncharted territory.
During the summer of 1900 Charlotte Hale, a native Newporter and secretary for the Rhode Island Reporter, accepts an undercover assignment as temporary governess to Daniel Wilmont's children in order to secretly gather evidence against him. As he helps her rediscover God, Charlotte learns that Daniel is an honorable man. They unexpectedly fall in love despite their different backgrounds and social positions. Charlotte soon realizes she must defend Daniel against the forces set against him—a willful student with a romantic crush and the newspaper editor determined to destroy his reputation.
My Review:
If you enjoy a romance then you would love this book.  The author tells an exciting tell of a reporter and a Professor, who also writes for a local paper.  The reporter then has to go undercover and tries to find evidence that goes against his "Christian" column.
From the beginning of the book, I was hooked.  You knew from the beginning, something was bound to happen but wasn't sure what.  I was even tempted to look at the last page - first.  I purposely had to make myself not look ahead and behave like a good reader.
This book is one I will keep on my permanent shelf.
I enjoyed this book but due to the older and more mature issues, I would not recommend for the younger eyes.
Blessings to you!  You are loved!

Forget Me Not by Vicki Hinze Book Review

 From the publisher:
ISBN: 9781601422057
Category: Fiction/Suspense
THEIR ELUSIVE ENEMIES TOOK EVERYTHING.  NOW THEY WANT MORE.

Crossroads Crisis Center owner Benjamin Brandt was a content man—in his faith, his work, and his family.  Then in a flash, everything he loved was snatched away.  His wife and son were murdered, and grief-stricken Ben lost faith.  Determination to find their killers keeps him going, but after three years of dead ends and torment, his hope is dying too.  Why had he survived?  He’d failed to protect his family.

Now, a mysterious woman appears at Crossroads seeking answers and help—a victim who eerily resembles Ben’s deceased wife, Susan.  A woman robbed of her identity, her life, of everything except her faith—and Susan’s necklace.

The connections between the two women mount, exceeding coincidence, and to keep the truth hidden, someone is willing to kill.  Finding out who and why turns Ben and the mystery woman’s situation from dangerous to deadly.  Their only hope for survival is to work together, trust each other, and face whatever they discover head on, no matter how painful. But will that be enough to save their lives and heal their tattered hearts?

My Review:
This book is not lighthearted.  It is filled with suspense and keeps your attention. The book is not for young eyes.  It does have mature intense material all through out the book.
At times, I even had to put the book down and try to remember who was who. There were a lot of characters who each had their own story.
I liked how the author tied in all the events at the very end.  It kept me in wonder how the story would fold out.
I wouldn't mind a second book to further explanation of the characters and how the future folded.
All in all, I would recommend this book for a reader who likes suspense and an action packed novel.  Again, for mature eyes only.

Blessings to you!  You are loved!

Simple Steps, Big Impact…

image

I’ve been using applesauce to bake with instead of oil for quite a while.  When I first started this, I was out of veggie oil for my banana bread – it worked great!

Now I do it because it is healthier!

Musselman’s the maker of some great applesauce (we love it) has partnered with the National Breast Cancer Foundation. (The NBCF is dedicated to raising awareness of breast cancer through education and by providing mammograms for those in need.)

Breast cancer runs in my family.  My sister’s Mom died of breast cancer.  My Aunt is a survivor.  One of my mentor’s is also a survivor.  I want this disease to stop.  However, until they find a cure – prevention and self-exams are important!

I hate the thought of mammograms.

I know there is controversy about them.  I also know because of them – many people I know are alive.

If you refuse to do them…please don’t forget about the self-exam.

What else can you do to help promote mammograms? In the month of January, for every package of Musselman’s Natural and Healthy Picks Apple Sauce purchased, Musselman’s will donate ten cents to the NBCF. Last year they reached $85,000 and they want to give even more this year!

Blessings to you!  You are loved!
