The Homecoming by Dan Walsh Book Review

image

The Homecoming by Dan Walsh
ISBN: 978-0-8007-3389-6
Available June 2010; $14.99

From the Publisher:

The Homecoming is Walsh’s second book, which brings readers back to the reunited Collins family. No sooner is Shawn home from the fighting in Europe than he is called upon to serve his country in another way--as a speaker on the war bond tour. While other men might jump at the chance to travel around the country with attractive Hollywood starlets, Shawn just wants to stay home with Patrick. When Shawn taps Katherine Townsend to be Patrick's nanny while he's on the road, he has no idea that she will be the key to his future happiness and the mending of his heart.

My Review:

When I think of a good book, I think of one that I want to crawl up into bed with and just read all day long.  This is one of those books.  It kept my attention and brought an ending that would have made any romantic glad they kept reading.

I would recommend this book to “mature” readers only, due to some of the war details.  It was a really easy story to follow even though I had not read the first novel.

Historical fiction always seems to teach me and to show me things I may have not realized had really happened.  This book brings WWII into a new light.  It shows just some of the effects of the war on just regular people.  I am always amazed how much I learn from historical fiction.  It just puts a new light on something that really happened.

The testimonies of God’s Goodness and of His Steadfastness were apparent throughout the book.  I appreciate how the author answered hard questions i.e. why would God take away a spouse and if God is all “good” – why would He allow that?

This would be a great book to take on vacation or to read on a lazy rainy day!

Blessings to you!  You are loved!

A Summer Secret by Kathleen Fuller Book Review

A Summer Secret by Kathleen Fuller
Page Count: 288
Retail Price: $9.99
ISBN: 140031593X
Publisher:  Tommy Nelson

This book is about a 13 year old Amish girl named Mary Beth.  Having younger brothers she must find a place of her own.  She decides on a old abandoned barn.  Although she thinks it is her own secret – it turns out others also share in the same secret.  There seems to be some growing up to do!

This book deserves 5 stars.  I would allow my children to read it and learn more about the unknown culture of the Amish.  It was clean and very easy to read.

I loved the story and the encouragement through out the book.  It was nice to see a good story for younger readers with a wholesome meaning.  (Although some of the story did involve deceit - there were still consequences for those actions, which made me like the book more.)

I would definitely recommend this book to adults as well, although it is meant for young readers!

Blessings to you!  You are loved!

The Last Christian by David Gregory Book Review

image
Abigail, a lady who has lived in a jungle has had her whole tribe mysteriously die from
a death and she is forced back into a world so different.  Times have changed but has Christianity?

This book was very hard for me to read.  In fact, I started over twice and read aloud to my husband just to make sure it wasn’t just me.  He said “Are you getting tired Dear?”  - meaning you are putting me to sleep – please quit reading.

This book did not inspire me and it was difficult to follow.  I could not recommend it especially as an easy read.

I also could not recommend it for younger readers just for the material that is suggested.

Blessings to you!  You are loved!

This Fine Life by Eva Marie Everson Book Review

This Fine Life by Eva Marie Everson
ISBN: 978-0-8007-3274-5
Available May 2010; $14.99

This book is superb! I love how the author makes the story so engaging.

Mariette Puttnam came back to town after attending a Catholic all-girl school.  She then meets a new guy in town, Thayne.  Knowing her “prestigious” parents would never allow her to see him, she finds herself in deceit.  With deceit brings total life changes. Changes her parents didn't quite prepare her for!

This book kept my attention.  I loved how it presented a timeline and yet didn’t have to give a lot of history.

I would recommend this book highly to a married lady.  It is a great read to take on vacation.

I would think it would also challenge many peoples thinking about their faith and walk with God.
Again, I loved this book!

Blessings to you!  You are loved!
