Lethal Legacy by Irene Hannon

Lethal Legacy: A Novel (Guardians of Justice)

From the Publisher:

Kelly Warren is on a mission to prove her father’s death wasn’t suicide, but Detective Cole Taylor doesn't put much credence in her claim. Nothing in his case review suggests foul play until Kelly ends up in the emergency room with a suspicious life-threatening medical condition. The incident strikes him as more than just coincidence. Digging deeper, he discovers she's linked to a long-ago crime. Is history repeating itself? And who wants Kelly silenced?
My Review:

I found that this mystery was not as good as the previous two in the Guardians of Justice Series.  Although it was filled with mystery and secrets, I just thought it dragged on and I couldn't wait to get to the end.  It was probably my impatience not the story itself.
I did appreciate the way Irene Hannon tells a story.  She can make you want to hang on to your seat and bite your lip at the same time.
As for Christian fiction, I didn't really see it.  It was clean as in no sex but there was still murder and an adult book not meant for little eyes.
Blessings to you!  You are loved!

The Gifted by Ann Gabhart Book Review

My Review:

Have you ever wanted to learn more about a certain faith or group of people but find history books boring and not really that informative?  I love that Ann Gabhart does just that.

Ann Gabhart takes you into the Shaker Village.  She makes me feel like I'm a fly on the wall and I can even hear the characters thoughts.  I love when an author can bring history alive.

As much as I love the history aspect, I found that there were a lot of words in this book, that could have been left out and still make a point.  I caught myself skimming across chapters more than once.

At the end of the book, I felt like I had been left hanging.  Although some of the story had closed, I would suspect it would need a follow up to some of the characters.

All in all, I would give the book 3 stars out of 5.

Blessings to you!  You are loved!

Simple Secrets to a Happy Life by Luci Swindoll Book Review

Simple Secrets to a Happy Life

My Review:

When I picked this book I thought it would be a good book for my life.  It was as the title suggested, simple.

Some of the "secrets" were just common sense.  But, then again, maybe I'm already living "a happy life" and understand the simplicity.

Some of the secrets are:
  • Write down important things.
  • Treat other people with kindness
  • Take Jesus with you everywhere.
Like I said, simple.

If you need a good book to put on the guest nightstand - that is for easy reading or a book to give as a gift for a non-reader - than this is the one.  If you are looking for "deep theology" then look elsewhere.

I would give the book 3 stars out of 5.  It is very family friendly.

Blessings to you!  You are loved!

The Fiddler by Beverly Lewis Book Review

Fiddler, The (Home to Hickory Hollow) by Beverly Lewis

From the publisher:
A wrong turn in a rainstorm leads Englisher Amelia Devries to Michael Hostetler--and the young Amishman's charming Old Order community of Hickory Hollow. Despite their very different backgrounds, Amelia and Michael both feel hemmed in by the expectations of others and struggle with how to find room for their own hopes. And what first seems to be a chance encounter might just change their lives forever.
My review:

Things I liked were in this book:
Amish stories that really describes their real struggles in livelihood and a pure love story.

Although the story started off good, in the middle it became kind of dry.  I felt that the characters dragged on.  I just couldn't wait for the story to end.  It just seem to lack substance in the love story.  For a Beverly Lewis book this was disappointing.  I've loved her other Amish books.

The cover of the book is just stunning.  It really portrays how I would see Ameila dress.

This book did nothing for my spirituality.  It was just a book for brief entertainment.
It was very clean and modest.

I'd give this book 3 out of 5 stars.

Blessings to you!  You are loved!

Forever Faithful by Karen Kingsbury Book Review

Forever Faithful by Karen Kingsbury
Do you need a good book for a long trip?  This is 3 books in one.

It made me mad, made me cry, made me laugh and then I just thought wow.
This was one of my first books by Karen Kingbury that I read years ago.  When I read it again, it was all new.  I love when that happens.

This book discusses many issues that are close to heart because they can be anyone's situation in real life.  Karen Kingsbury seems to touch real life in her stories.  They speak to the heart.

This book deals with drunk driving, forgiveness, death, deceit, anger, torn lives and the love only a Father in Heaven can bring.

The characters are so believable and really make me think - what would I do if I was in their situation?

One day, I hope this is a movie series.

Blessings to you!  You are loved!

Words Spoken True Book Review

Words Spoken True

Words Spoken True: A Novel

Words Spoken True is a novel based in Kentucky.  In fact, that is the reason, I really wanted to review it being my hubby is from there.

I was hoping to learn a little about the culture and time back then.  However, it was more of a love story with a little mystery thrown in.

Having read Ann H. Gabhart in the past, I was a little surprised at this novel.  It was definitely suspenseful with a killer on the loose.  It also had the romance that kept me intrigued.

For some reason, the first part of the book it was like a slow movie.  I wish the author would have sped up the plot, just a little.  By the end, it was worth the read.

I still would recommend this book for mature eyes.  Some of the scenes portrayed are rather violent in nature.

This would be a cute movie.

Blessings to you!  You are loved!

Heart Safe Passage Book Review

Heart's Safe Passage
Heart's Safe Passage: A Novel (The Midwives)

Have you ever started a book and thought this is not for me, only to find out you really liked it?

It took me a while to even open the book.  For some reason, the cover made me a little scared.  The waters reminded me of an old time Disney ghost movie.

The content of the story was totally different.  The author took me back in time to pirates, ship voyages, and a war that I didn't know much about.

I was entertained while learning about a different time in life.  While the story is totally fiction, it is based on a time that was real.

The characters were likable and I was drawn into their story.  Even though this was a series, the author gives you enough information to not have to read the first story.

I would recommend this book for mature readers.

Blessings to you!  You are loved!
